Code Explorers’ Day-Camp

DATES
Summer 2024

DURATION
This course takes place over a period of 5 weeks, 4 days a week, with 2 days of theory and practice.  Day 4 is devoted to special projects or the occasional field trip.

The "Code Explorers’ Camp" course is an exciting journey into the world of programming designed for 10-16-year-olds. This course serves as a foundational steppingstone for young learners to explore the art and science of coding. Students will embark on a creative and hands-on adventure, where they'll discover the essential concepts of algorithms, sequencing, and problem-solving. Throughout the course, they will gain the confidence to express their ideas through code, develop logical thinking, and even work on interactive projects. By the end, students will not only understand the language of code but also appreciate how coding plays a vital role in our increasingly digital world, all while having fun and nurturing their creativity.

SPECIAL PROJECTS
Each learner will be able to choose a special project that they would like to work on individually.  Collectively the team will also work on a special project aimed at giving back to the community via technology.  At the end of the five weeks, the learners will get to showcase their work to their friends and family.

By the end of this course, learners will be able to…

  • Describe what coding is and how it is used in the real world.

  • Describe the concept of algorithms.

  • Demonstrate through sequences, loops, and Repetition in coding.

  • Identify, build in, and explore how art and creativity can have a positive impact on technology.

  • Describe different elements that make up a game.

  • Create a basic game using block coding.
